Susan Joy Sager

Susan Joy Sager is an artist, author and administrator who is a graduate of the Lake Placid School of Art, Lake Placid, NY, with a Diploma in Painting and Photography as well as Hampshire College, Amherst, MA, with a BA degree in Photography and History.

Susan has most recently exhibited her Family Album Series of photographic transfers on antique linens at SoBo Book and Bean in South Berwick, ME as well as her self portrait drawings and paintings in a Mother/Daughter show at the Black Bean Café in Rollinsford, NH.  Past shows include: the Sharon Arts Center in Peterborough, NH, Swain School of Design in New Bedford, MA, Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, Ocean Grove Historical Society in Ocean Grove, NJ, Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA, the Newman Center at RPI in Troy, NY, the First Unitarian Society in Schenectady, NY, and the Washington Women’s Art Center in Washington, DC.

Susan started ArtBiz (www.artbiz.info) in 1993 to provide professional development for artists and craftspeople by offering career counseling sessions and business seminars. Susan has taught workshops at schools and organizations such as: Maine College of Art, Montserrat College of Art and Design, Worcester Craft Center, Savannah College of Art and Design, Massachusetts College of Art, the Farnsworth Museum, and Peters Valley Craft Center.

In addition to publishing articles in publications such as The Crafts Report, Woodshop News, and the Maine Crafts Association Newsletter, Susan has written two business books for artists and craftspeople: Selling Your Crafts, published by Allworth Press in New York in 1998 (revised in 2004), as well as
Creative Careers in Crafts, profiling over 40 craftspeople, in 2004. 

Her work as an arts administrator includes such schools as the: Program in Artisanry, Boston University, Boston, MA; Swain School of Design, New Bedford, MA; Graduate School of Design, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; Portland School of Art, Portland, ME; Haystack Mt. School of Crafts, Deer Isle, ME; and Bangor Historical Society, Bangor, Maine.  Susan is currently the House Manager at the Warner House in
Portsmouth, NH.

Susan lives in South Berwick, Maine with her husband, Scott Moody, and son, Miles. She is a fourth generation Unitarian Universalist and member of South Church in Portsmouth, NH.
