Painted Treasures

Phyllis Giordano is a self-taught artist who left corporate life to pursue her desire to create art furniture.  The designs she creates for her York gallery are mounted on vintage and antique pieces.  Ms. Giordano prefers the unique style and construction of older furniture and finds inspiration as she is working to prepare each piece for the final design.

Painted Treasures got its start when Ms. Giordano began creating painted furnishings for her own home in 1994.  The response from friends and neighbors was so enthusiastic that she was prompted to create pieces for sale in 2003.  That home-based business has grown into her York studio and gallery, which opened in September, 2004.  Ms. Giordano resides in York with her husband and son.

The construction of this stool is so straightforward.  I wanted to do justice to the simplicity of the design and also include something uniquely New England in the artwork.  The changing of the seasons is something that comes to mind immediately when thinking about this area, so the medallions on the seat represent that aspect of life in New England.  The color washes on the remainder of the piece give it a simple, rustic character.  I want my furniture to be pleasing to the eye as well as functional, and I hope I have achieved that with this piece.
