Yin Yang Cats on a Braided Rug
Whether sculpting with slate and copper; or
doing collaborative, landscape, meditative, miniature portrait, or performance
painting; working with silver; or making pottery, I enjoy the dance between
intense focus and stepping back to evaluate the results.
I never
grew out of collecting shells and rocks on the beach and am known to
pick up a variety of discarded
objects to use in creating art. I become
lost in beautiful sunsets filled with billowing clouds, water views, watching
birds, squirrels and other animals.
These life experiences bring me peace and inspiration.
I was
presented the idea of doing a kitchen stool and encouraged to let my inspiration
guide me. Everyday when I looked at the
stool I thought of something different.
Then I adopted two cats or they adopted me, either way, we became a
family. Watching them curled up beside
me one day gave me an idea. I grabbed my
pencil and did a quick sketch. The stool is the first piece of art I have done
with my new muses. I changed the color
of the cats to black and white to emphasis the yin yang position in which they
were curled. Painting this design on the
stool was a challenge for me but I love the end result.
